Teacher observation hours nearly double in short span

Following a state mandate that pre-service students obtain 100 of clinical experience hours, the number of hours of observations, demonstrations and practicums soared from about 25,000 hours in 1977-78 to more than 45,000 hours in 1979-1980.
“Miracle” takes 4th; Pritner all-stater

U-High condensed its fall show, ‘The Miracle Worker”, into a contest show, then pulled off victories at District and Sectional to qualify for the State finals where they finished 4th. Juliet Pritner was also named to the All- State cast.
Marching band performs at World Fair in New Orleans

Band Director Mark Victor said the marching band will perform during a parade through the 82 acre complex.

U-High develops, models study skills program for students

Librarian Madeleine Hoss brings Arabic language, culture to area students

The long-time U-High librarian became the first person in 17 years to be awarded a transitional bilingual certificate in the McLean-Dewitt Country region.
U-High hosts teacher workshop series for area educators

20 science teachers took part in the sessions, designed to help them improve student engagement and excitement. U-High science teachers Dennis Johnson and Jennifer Grogg obtained a $45,000 grant from the Illinois State Board of Education to fund the program.

Students meet Vice-President Bush during ISU campaign stop

Running to replace two-term President Ronald Reagan, Vice-President George Bush stops at ISU on September 28. According the to Clarion editors, “Bush seemed to be what America wanted”.
Teacher salaries hit $22,975 average

This compares to an average of $29,757 per year for teachers at state schools. 61% of lab school teachers have a master’s degree or above.
Mac publishing lab installed

Parents contributed most of the $15,000 required. No longer will students have to cut and paste articles to a page; all can be done digitally. The new system will be used to print both the Clarionette and Brome and Beyond.
U-High is the first school in the area to have this advanced publishing system. Additional publications, including Brome and Beyond will also be published in the lab.
Industrial Arts becomes Industrial Technology
